for everyone
the shoot that almost did not push through. we had the shoot last may 31st. this was item #1 in my latest blog entry (must organize ipod, must edit photos, must organize). after two weeks, i am done processing the photos.

now, let me tell why the shoot did not almost push through.

we agreed to meet at 3pm. it was cloudy that day so i was worried it will rain and that the lighting will be bad since we will shoot outdoors. but, it didn't rain and the skies cleared. but at 3 pm, the chinese patient was still not around. at 4 pm, i was already losing light since the sun was beginning to set. i sms barraged him. but the chinese patient did not arrive until 5pm. he was 2 hours late. we didn't start the shoot until 5:30 since i still had to do his hair and make-up. the photos are grainy since i used a higher ISO value for the shots.

we later moved inside the house. the location was so funny. it was beside the fridge, just outside the bathroom. i had to make do with indoor lighting and shadows casted by the fridge.

a backgrounder: i thought the chinese patient had good bone structure. you know the kind of facial features you see in skinny models. so i told him this was my main consideration why i wanted to shoot him. we were chatting through YM, when he read this, he simply replied with a lmao icon (harsh!). or maybe he was just playing it cool. i don't know.

was it all worth the 2 hour wait and the poor lighting and the fridge's shadow? check out the photos and tell me if it was. and oh, tell me if you'll agree with me that this guy has good bone structure. (fyi: this is not the complete photo set. some shots were not posted as requested by the chinese patient.)

ps: btw, i made the hair, make-up and stylingduring the shoot. all clothes and other stuff, off from my closet. head to toe all mine. (",)

if only i could get those kind of cheekbones...

nice yashmagh sir!

love this shot! i would kill to have those cheekbones. good job on the photoshoot!
greenniner wrote on Jun 15, '08
thanks shang. me thinks the same thing. those cheek bones are to die for!

Have you tried venturing into portrait photography?
greenniner wrote on Jun 15, '08, edited on Jun 15, '08
i'm really just an amateur. thus the label snapshots because i still think my techniques are still amateur. but that's something i'd love to venture into someday. i'd probably need some equipment to consider myself as a pro, but i can't afford them for now (unless somebody wants to sponsor me.hehe). so we'll see.
greenniner wrote on Jun 15, '08
if i may add between landscape photography and taking portrait shots, i love taking shots of people more and that's something i want to specialize in. (",)

Yes, it's very apparent in your pics. And you're doing a good job at it.
I'm more into capturing moments with people rather than orchestrated ones although it's very difficult to do.
islandshang wrote on Jun 15, '08
and i love to take pics of myself! HAHAHA.
greenniner wrote on Jun 15, '08, edited on Jun 15, '08
you're doing a good job at it.
gee thanks. i'm grateful for this comment. :-)

candid moments are also good. i also love taking them. but, what i like doing is bringing out something from the person. i also do make-up so, i want to create a different look for my subject to bring out their features. case in point, this album set, i want to let my subject know that his facial structure is picture worthy since it's really model-material. a little make-up really highlighted those wonderful cheek bones. (but he doesn't really seem to care about it. i'm thinking humility or just being cool with it. i don't know. i'll ask him anyway.)

another reason is, i want people to feel good about themselves. this is usually the reaction i get when from other people when they see their friend's pictures. aw, this shot is nice, i didn't know you're so pretty. that for me is already one of the greatest rewards. (",)

*sorry this reply is long, it's almost a blog entry. hehe

Hmmm... that's something I'd like to try myself. I've been doing photography with my point-and-shoot for two years now but I really haven't found my "style" yet. well, I guess I'm more into landscaping.

hi lou! thanks ha. this is your first comment on my album set and big time agad. i am flattered to be complimented by a wonderful photographer like you, i am not worthy. haha!

hey, we have something in common. i started with a point and shoot camera, an ixus from canon. at first, i took mostly landscape photos, buildings, still life, etc. i also did it for 2 years. i started really taking portrait shots when i got sixto (my slr). you know what? just really go with the flow, i'm sure you'll be good at landscape photography.
immortalundead wrote on Jun 15, '08
The Chinese do have prominent cheekbones. Jet Li, Jackie Chan even Jerry Yan.
This one' s nice. You got the focus well, just right where it belongs.

that thingy is called a yashmagh. i have 5 or 6 of them. i ordered them online because you can't find them here in cebu. i've looked everywhere, colon, carbon, tabo sa banay, name it. but big thanks to multiply i got them shipped to me overnight minus the hassle. here are their links: www.scarfjoint.mulitply.com and www.scarfity.multiply.com. re the photo churvaloo, sure thing. just holler at me when you want it done. :-)

hi ivy! i think so too. thank you for your kind compliments. i am grateful. re the shoot, i'd love to (i just need to figure out how to go to japan. lol!). you know it's funny because at first i had a hard time getting volunteers.but now, i have willing victims (hehe). keep them coming guys, please allow me to take your photos.

hmmm... love your idea! hehehe. you'll be amazed how difficult it is to take my picture because i have so many "fat" angles. but maybe make-up and lighting would do the trick. i will keep that offer in mind when i visit Cebu next year! :) i have a semi-professional photographer friend who finds taking my pic challenging. my best portrait to this date was taken by Hockson Go when i was 20... am now 33. LOL!

yo gurlfriend! i'm so happy i was able to pull it off. it was worth the experimentation.

i'm planning to go home this july, but i'm eyeing this flash for my sixto and it's going to cost met at least three 2-way airfare. hmmph!

i don't think i got to thank you formally for allowing me to take your photos so thank you very much. i know it felt like it was torture because i have alot of requirements.haha! thanks for your patience too. re the compliments, those are for you. you did exceptionally well for a guinea pig. :-)

more photoshoots eh?

ps: i still think the 2 hours was a long wait and you had alot of alibis.hehe. but it was worth it anyway.

eyyy try taking photoshoots like these where there's a lot of greenery with the same model. I'd love to see how it turns out with you at the helm.

really,u should gve it a thought in taking a course on photography...
greenniner wrote on Jun 17, '08, edited on Jun 17, '08
you know what, i just might. photography is an expensive hobby but it's very rewarding. i enjoy taking other people's photos and see how they'd react when they see it. it's an amazing experience. i think it's a good idea to take a formal course for photography i still have a lot of technical stuff to learn.

Gabby, I think the only 2 things that seperate an artist from somebody monkeying around with a camera is passion and dicipline. You clearly have both. Theres nothing that gives me greater joy than seeing a friend doing what they love and doing it well.

Thank you for sharing these. Its a window to your soul, and I appreciate your inviting me to see.

wow! what can i say, you always say the right things pete. that's why i love being your friend. thank you, thank you for your kind words. i'm glad that you manage to see through the photos. you are correct, these are not just merely photos, it's also a window to my psyche and friends like you are always welcome to take a look through it. thanks! the photos are awesome eh?

that's what i love about photography, i just love the people's reaction when they see the results. it's an amazing experience like i previously commented. i think i have an eye for seeing if somebody will look good in photos (haha. self-praise). i also want to give due credit to the chinese patient, he deserves a pat on the back as well. the photos will not turn out to be as good as they are if it isn't because of him. he did really good as a subject (or as a guinea pig.hehe). our friend is, officially, a model. haha! haha. it's ok. i just want to make reference to him as the chinese patient. it adds a hint of fun and mystery to the whole thing. some call it hype, press release or publicity stunt. but as for me, it's all part of the creative process. in other words, it's all pure drama or in vernacular, pure kaartehan. lol!
